My Skin Journey | Pride Month 2021

Dr. Zenovia Skincare is committed to showcasing the skin journey of real people. In this post, Luke, a trans lifestyle influencer shares his experience of establishing an effective skincare routine. Dr. Zenovia’s topicals were especially helpful while he was on testosterone therapy which can cause acne. Everyone has a unique perspective and skin story.

My Skin Care Journey

I was under the impression for many years that because I didn’t suffer from acne, I didn’t deserve high-quality skincare, and that my skin’s health probably wouldn’t improve or change much at all anyways. That was such an unhealthy mindset and couldn’t have been farther from the truth. I also want to preface this by saying I would not consider myself a skincare guru but have learned so much from Dr. Zenovia and through using her skincare products. I am the guru of my own skin health, I guess!

I would describe my skin type as normal to oily. During stressful times or days where I consume a little more sugar than ideal (major sweet tooth), I will get some (maybe 2-4) hard, painful pimples around my chin. That’s the extent of my skin problems- lucky, I know! However, I was so eager to try Dr. Zenovia’s line of products partly because I love nice things and because my wife suffers from hormonal acne which is Dr. Zenovia’s specialty. The line is also cruelty-free and vegan which is a must for me!

Since September 2020, Kelsey and I have been using Dr. Zenovia’s hormonal topicals routinely. I am a little bit neurotic about my skincare routine at this point!

Luke’s Skincare Routine

My current skincare routine includes cleansing with the Bakuchiol Hydrating Cleanser, applying the Vitamin C Brightening Toner to my skin, exfoliating with the 10% Glycolic Acne Control Peel Pads (every other day), and hydrating with Dr. Zenovia’s Hyaluronic Acid + Peptide Serum and the Peptide + Ceramide Repairing Moisturizer

It’s so hard for me to pick a favorite product, but if you’re only going to get two, I would recommend trying the Hyaluronic Acid + Peptide Serum and Peptide + Ceramide Repairing Moisturizer. These are skincare GOLD!

If I am experiencing a breakout of those hard pimples, I will apply Dr. Zenovia’s 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Spot Treatment directly to those areas. I’ve found that this targeted treatment helps my pimples go away within 1-3 days.

Three times a week, I will also use the Advanced Retinol Night Repair Treatment. I had never used a retinol prior to trying Dr. Zenovia’s and I am obsessed with the results.

Seeing Results

Now that I have a regular skincare regimen my complexion is so clear and balanced! I don’t freak out if I have a small breakout anymore because it’s rare and it is usually resolved in a few days. I feel like my skin tone and texture have also improved. Looking back at old pictures I notice that I had some discoloration and mild rosacea going on that I wasn’t even aware of.

Thanks to Dr. Zenovia I’ve realized that the skin’s health stands on multiple pillars including nutrition, sleep, and efficacious skincare. Whether you are dealing with hormonal acne or if you’re like me and think your skin is average and unworthy of professional skincare, do your research and invest in derm-developed skincare. You deserve this!

Luke Wesley Pearson, a lifestyle influencer and blogger recently came out as Trans. Since Testosterone treatments can cause hormonal acne, Dr. Zenovia’s Clear Complexion Line has been able to help through the hormonal changes.
