WHAT IT IS

What is Hyaluronic Acid in Skincare?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a humectant—meaning it helps attract and retain water. Reviews of topical HA describe how its effects vary by molecular weight: larger HA can form a surface film that supports hydration, while smaller forms are often used for different sensorial and potential penetration behavior (dependent on the full formulation).

HOW IT WORKS

How Hyaluronic acid Works in the Skin

Topical HA primarily improves skin quality by increasing hydration and supporting a smoother “plumped” look. A randomized trial comparing different topical HA molecular weights in older adults with dry skin underscores the “molecular weight matters” concept in real-world hydration outcomes (sample size limitations apply).

BENEFITS

Benefits of Hyaluronic acid

Expect hydration support, improved look of dehydration fine lines, and better “bounce” when HA is used consistently—especially when followed by a moisturizer that seals hydration in.

WHO IT’S FOR

Who is Hyaluronic acid Best For?

Most skin types can use HA, particularly if dryness, tightness, or dehydration lines are present. Dr. Zenovia positions HA as especially helpful for dry, sensitive, and aging skin when paired with peptides and barrier lipids.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

What Makes Our Hyaluronic acid Different

Not all hyaluronic acid hydrates the same way—molecular weight matters. That’s why we use multiple molecular forms of Hyaluronic Acid to support more continuous, comfortable hydration across skin’s layers.

Our formula features fractionated (multi-weight) Hyaluronic Acid—ultra-small and varying-size HA molecules designed to help draw in moisture and replenish hydration beyond the surface for that “bouncy,” plumped look.

At the same time, we pair it with a high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid approach that primarily stays closer to the skin’s surface, forming a thin protective hydration layer that helps keep moisture from escaping—so skin feels hydrated now and stays comfortable later.

Dr. Z’s Clinical Insight

“For maximum benefits, follow application of this serum with a moisturizer to lock in all the hydrating ingredients. I recommend pairing it with the Peptide + Ceramide Repairing Moisturizer…”

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions About Hyaluronic Acid

Should I apply HA on damp skin?

Yes — for optimal results, applying Hyaluronic Acid to slightly damp skin can enhance its performance.

Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant, meaning it attracts and binds water. When applied to damp skin, it has more moisture available to pull into the skin, which can make hydration feel deeper, plumper, and longer-lasting.

That said, our formulation is designed to work effectively with or without damp skin, because we use both fractionated and high molecular weight HA. Even on dry skin, the high molecular weight HA helps lock in existing hydration while the smaller molecules work beneath the surface.

Is HA enough without moisturizer?

Hyaluronic Acid is an excellent hydrator — but it is not a complete moisturizer on its own.

HA attracts and holds water, but it does not replenish lipids or fully repair the skin barrier. That’s why we recommend layering it with a moisturizer that contains occlusives or barrier-supporting ingredients (like ceramides, glycerin, squalane, or phospholipids).

In our regimen philosophy, Hyaluronic Acid is best used as:

• A hydration booster

• A plumping serum

• A foundation layer for your routine

But for truly balanced, healthy skin, it should be followed by a moisturizer that locks everything in.

Hyaluronic Acid is the backbone of resilient, hydrated skin — when delivered at multiple molecular weights, it doesn’t just moisturize, it transforms how your skin holds and maintains hydration.
